RISE Life Services has an amazing team of people, who make a powerful and positive difference every day in people’s lives.  We’d like you to meet our staff members and learn more about them. This week we introduce you to Alexa Tysowski, residential manager within RISE’s Mental Health Program. We asked Alexa some questions to get to know her better.

What is your role at RISE?

I am a manager within the Mental Health Program.

What does your job include?

I am responsible for the oversight of a house with ten residents.

When did you start with our organization?

I’ve been working with RISE for about six months.

What is your favorite part of working here?

I enjoy watching a resident accomplish his or her goals. It’s rewarding to know that I am helping to make a positive impact on someone else’s life.

What do you find challenges you the most?

There are days when I go home and all I think about are the individuals and what is going on at the residence. I have found it difficult to flip that switch and focus on myself at times.

Any specific goals for this year, professionally or personally?

I would like to grow within the Mental Health Program and maintain a positive work environment for my staff. Having a great team is an essential part of ensuring the residents are receiving the maximum level of support.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I make soy candles and enjoy participating in local craft fairs on Long Island.

What would we find you typically doing on a day off?

On my day off I enjoy sleeping in, going to the gym, and spending time with my family or friends. Lying in bed and watching my favorite TV shows is what a great day off is to me.

Favorite food(s)?

I love sushi. I could eat it everyday!

Favorite color?

Purple.

What advice do you have for someone starting their career in this area?

This field will definitely teach you a lot, about yourself and others, and be challenging at times. It’s important to remember that we are human too and no one is perfect. When you see for the first time that you have helped change someone’s life, there is truly no better feeling. At that moment, all of the hard work you have put in has paid off.
