Opportunities At RISE Life Services

RISE Life Services is thrilled to introduce to you the first-ever blog that is written and edited by the residents and individuals participating in programs at RISE. The blog series is appropriately titled, RISE Life Times.

RISE Life Times will be published at least once per month and share a variety of topics. We will cover news and updates from the programs at RISE. However, the editorial team will be sharing tips and ‘How To’ articles about their favorite things, as well as self-help blogs. They will also be sharing more information about the things they are passionate about. Stay tuned.

Since this is the inaugural blog, we would like to share more about each member of the editorial team. Writers/Editors: Isabella, Mariella, Rachel, Joey, Michael, Steven; Managing Editors: David, Melissa and JoAnn

Steven has many interests, which include walks, going out to eat, reading books and learning about religion and ethnicity. He describes himself as “a lot of different things,” and looks forward to sharing about living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D.) as well as sharing his knowledge of Hungarian folklore. Steven’s favorite thing is spending time with his mother.

Mariella joined the program without walls in November. She has an eleven-year-old son, Joshua, and a nine-year-old step daughter, Madison, who lives in Florida. Mariella likes to read, to dance, go to the movies, work on crafts and spend time with her family. She plans to share more about what it’s like at The Main Street Connection Day Program, and what they do as a group in the community. She also plans on sharing about her interest in fashion.

Michael has a lot to share from his experience attending BOCES for culinary arts. He is also an avid fisherman. Fishing is his favorite thing to do, along with hanging out with his parents. He loves the Yankees and he is a macaroni and cheese connoisseur.  Michael attends the program without walls as well, and enjoys cooking and baking while in day program. He plans to share tips about fishing, cooking and his adventures.

Joey joined the RISE day program to become more independent and he loves it because the program without walls is teaching him how to reach his goals in life. His favorite things include going to the movies, learning about movie history, visiting the Water Mill art center with program, book club, writing and being outdoors. Joey has set a goal to attend Suffolk Community College to study criminal justice. He also enjoys babysitting his three-year-old niece.

Isabella is a part of RISE’s residential program. She shares about her struggles with autism and shares that she is transgender. Isabella’s favorite things to do include going to the beach, the movies and shopping as well as spending time with her family and many friends. She also loves music. Isabella would like to share more about her interests in future articles.

Rachel’s favorite things to do are write stories, paint, draw and sing. She is currently in a musical. She loves animals, especially dogs. Her favorite breed is the American Pit Bull. Rachel lives in a RISE IRA residence and attends RISE’s day program without walls three days per week. She is appreciative of her supportive family and has plans to travel to Italy and Greece. We look forward to learning more about the arts from Rachel and some travel blogs as well.
