RISE FOOD PANTRY PARTNERS WITH LONG ISLAND CARES

RISE Life Services (an Aid to the Developmentally Disabled Company) operates The Main Street Market Food Pantry, which is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at 901 East Main Street, Suite 500, in Riverhead. Anyone is welcome to come and get food from us. Most of those who do utilize this resource have difficulty providing for themselves or their families.

The community finds out about it through Island Harvest, who lists it on their website and on signage throughout all of the Suffolk County food pantries they serve. Now, RISE is pleased to announce that there is an additional source of food donations for the food pantry as it continues to grow. RISE recently expanded to this new downtown Riverhead location and now receives double the allocation of food. In continuing to meet the needs of the community, RISE recently partnered with Long Island Cares, which will provide an additional source of food and other items needed.

Long Island Cares brings together all available resources to benefit the hungry on Long Island and provides for the humanitarian needs of the community. Their goals are to improve food security for families, sponsor programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educate the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island. Their vision is ‘A Hunger-Free Long Island.’

“RISE is thrilled to be working with Long Island Cares,” said JoAnn Vitale, who coordinates the food pantry program, “We are now able to receive a lot more food through their food bank. It also gives us additional opportunities to apply for grant funding for our food pantry.”
