RISE Life Services operates The Main Street Market Food Pantry, which is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at 901 East Main Street, Suite 500, in Riverhead. Most of those who do utilize this resource have difficulty providing for themselves or their families. The community finds out about it through Island Harvest, who lists it on their website and on signage throughout all of the Suffolk County food pantries they serve. Now after continued growth of the pantry, RISE is expanding to a second food pantry location on the South Fork to meet the needs of the community.
After the global pandemic of COVID-19 hit, the planned expansion of a second RISE food pantry in Hampton Bays was halted. RISE needed to raise funds to supply this location with equipment like refrigeration, a freezer and shelving to store the food properly. RISE is thrilled to announce that they recently received a grant in the amount of $11,000 from the Rommel Wilson Memorial Fund (RWMF) to provide the money needed to complete the set-up and open the new location. Their support has helped RISE achieve this goal.
The Rommel Wilson Memorial Fund’s benefactors, Helen and the Rev. Canon Paul Wancura were long time residents of the East End of Long Island and the directors of RWMF felt that they would be pleased to see the efforts that RISE has made in helping the needy in these especially difficult times. RISE’s Main Street Market Food Pantry would like to thank the RWMF and directors, Albert A. Brayson, Kevin J. Lockerbie, Michael E. Russell and Edward J. Vitale for this very important grant. We will announce more details once the Hampton Bays food pantry is officially open and receives food for the public.
