The New Face of Fundraising

Fundraising. What is it exactly? It is comprised of many different levels and comes in a variety of forms. Traditionally, there are fundraising events. We love those! Now those events encompass so much more than before. There are galas, ticketed formal events and casino nights. There are experiences at unique venues, golf outings and even those which honor someone prominent in their community. Fundraising is even more than events though and even that branch of nonprofit revenue boasts something completely...

A Volunteer Story: Dot Exum

RISE Life Services depends on those who volunteer their time and help enhance the lives of those we serve each day. One particular volunteer, Ms. Dot Exum, has been working with our organization for twenty five years. Ms. Exum continues to volunteer even long after she retired from her full-time role in the agency. Dot Exum started her journey with Aid to the Developmentally Disabled (ADD) when Grumman closed. She had worked at Grumman for twenty three years. Dot began at...

RISE FOOD PANTRY TO HOST ISLAND HARVEST COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

RISE Life Services operates The Main Street Market Food Pantry, which is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone is welcome to come and get food from us. Most of those who do utilize this resource have difficulty providing for themselves or their families. The community finds out about it through Island Harvest, the main source of our donated food distribution, who lists it on their website and on signage throughout all of Suffolk County. Now, RISE...

Volunteers from Day Program Help Food Pantry

The Main Street Connection, RISE Life Services’ day program without walls, has been helping RISE’s Main Street Market food pantry each week. Every Monday, the group travels to the Island Harvest warehouse to pick up food donations supplementary to the weekly allotment received during Wednesday’s delivery. A small group loads the van and then everyone helps unpack the food into the pantry for Wednesday when it’s open to the public. Additionally, once or twice per...

A Year in Review

The year 2018 was full of growth and positive change. We look back now on our year in blogs and are thrilled with the success we have experienced; along with the details we learned about our staff, residents and our programs. Thank you for joining us on this journey and reading our blogs each week. We enjoyed sharing about the expansion of our food pantry; the addition of our day program, The Main Street Connection; the improvements to our Northville Sensory...

Giving Tuesday 2018

This Nov 27th is #GivingTuesday. Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day of giving, a social movement, that begins after a weekend of shopping from Black Friday through Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday has become an important part of our fundraising each year. This year we are fundraising to impact The Main Street Market Food Pantry. Our food pantry has grown significantly over the last year, but so has the need. The community who depends on us continues to grow,...

Thanks + Giving

This week is Thanksgiving and we are thankful for so many things: our team, our community of supporters and most importantly, the individuals we serve in our programs. We are currently reflecting back on the past year and year before that to measure our growth and review the changes that took place. During this season, it is also a time to consider giving. We have grown significantly since 2017 and have implemented numerous positive changes and proven effective practices, increasing programs...
