RISE Life Services’ food pantry called The Main Street Market Food Pantry was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $2,500 from The Charlotte Cheatham Hunger Relief Fund.

They have recognized our efforts to enhance availability of nutritious foods and personal care items to our local community, and are actively helping us to expand the food pantry.

The Charlotte Cheatham Hunger Relief Fund was started in remembrance of Mrs. Charlotte Cheatham and her advocacy for the hungry. They have provided grants to food pantries, soup kitchens and other groups on Long Island that address day-to-day nutritional requirements of our neighbors in need. We are grateful for receiving this grant to help us in purchasing additional equipment; and to work towards opening a second location soon.

Not only are we serving our community with the RISE Main Street Market Food Pantry and helping with the outreach of information to those in need, but we are providing an avenue for individuals in our program to enhance their community interaction and be a vital part of an important effort through a work program at the pantry. These individuals are employed through RISE and work at the food pantry, transporting and stocking food donations from Island Harvest; managing inventory; and distributing food every Wednesday when the food pantry is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
