The Main Street Connection At The Sensory Gardens

The Main Street Connection is a unique day program at RISE Life Services. Participants of this innovative program are afforded the opportunity to use and build upon their current skill set to participate in the Life of the Community. “The Day Program Without Walls” offers a choice of daily activities that the participants of the program decide upon at regular meetings. The group works on individual goals and a daily routine, even though the activities for the day vary.

The Main Street Connection has grown significantly since its inception and now has expanded their home-base to include the Northville Sensory Gardens. At the Gardens, Ponds and fountains that run the entire length of the property are stocked with fish. The ponds are surrounded by natural walkways that produce a serene environment for all to enjoy. Benches are placed around the property for people to sit and enjoy the breathtaking view. The sensory gardens have become an interactive learning experience for the individuals in our programs.

We asked our group of blog writers: Jimmy, Michael, Peter and Robert, about their favorite things to do at and around the Sensory Gardens. While they are on property, they love activities such as baseball, kickball, dodge ball and playing board games. During the summer, they even enjoyed baseball with water balloons to cool off.

Specifically, Robert’s favorite thing to do at the Sensory Gardens location is having a grilled lunch of hot dogs, corn and cold salads. Michael’s favorite thing is to visit Iron Pier Beach, just minutes from the Gardens, to go fishing. Jimmy’s favorite is playing basketball, and Peter’s favorite is when the group hosts scavenger hunts throughout the park-like setting.

It seems unanimous that everyone really loves spending time at this beautiful spot. It suits the program well and we are thrilled to be able to offer this location to The Main Street Connection.
