RISE Life Services’ Mental Health Program organizes an Advocacy Group, in which individuals in the MH Program gather to actively promote awareness in the community to end the stigma attached to mental illness.
In the past, they have participated in events such as Alive on 25 in Riverhead in order to share the message of awareness among our neighbors on the East End of Long Island. At their table, they distributed items they created along with flyers and snapped pictures for social media with a frame reading, ‘Support Mental Health and End Stigma!’
The advocacy group also has attended various conferences and events which helped build confidence, motivation and positivity surrounding those with mental illness. These events have given each individual a more powerful voice.
The advocacy group meets monthly. Some of the topics of upcoming meetings include:
- Develop an internal Women’s empowerment group
- Planning to attend Legislative Day in 2019
- Plans to host a bake sale for fundraising
