The Main Street Connection, RISE Life Services’ day program without walls, has been helping RISE’s Main Street Market food pantry each week. Every Monday, the group travels to the Island Harvest warehouse to pick up food donations supplementary to the weekly allotment received during Wednesday’s delivery. A small group loads the van and then everyone helps unpack the food into the pantry for Wednesday when it’s open to the public.
Additionally, once or twice per month, RISE receives a large delivery from Long Island Cares (approximately 600 lbs. of food). When we receive that delivery, the same day program individuals who travel to Island Harvest on Mondays, help Ricky at the food pantry to put everything away and keep things organized.
The volunteers of The Main Street Connection have been extremely helpful in lending their time to the Main Street Market. They have had a direct impact on the community by making further food donations possible from both Island Harvest and Long Island Cares facilities.
RISE Life Services provides a residential and supported living environment on the East End of Long Island, dedicated to empowering people with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges to RISE to their full potential.
