RISE Life Services has an amazing team of people, who make a powerful and positive difference every day in people’s lives.  We’d like you to meet our staff members and learn more about them. This week we introduce you to Michelle Callahan, senior day program specialist. Ms. Callahan is also the current Employee of the Quarter. We asked Michelle some questions to get to know her better.

What is your role at RISE?

I am a senior day program specialist with the Main Street Connection, RISE’s day program without walls.

When did you start with our organization?

I started in October 2017.

What is your favorite part of working here?

I love the people at RISE. I enjoy my co-workers and the individuals always brighten my day. Since I began working here, the individuals and co-workers have taught me so much.

What do you find challenges you the most?

Developing a relationship with individuals who are non-verbal is the most challenging. You tend to have to go a different way to learn things about them and build that rapport.

Any specific goals for this year, professionally or personally?

To continue working with the day program and helping it to grow and expand.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I love dancing, I’ve danced since I was little. I do not do it as much anymore, but I do occasionally take classes here and there.

What would we find you typically doing on a day off?

When it is nice outside, I like to go to the beach and go for hikes. I enjoy being with my family and friends.

Favorite food(s)?

Penne a la vodka

Favorite color?

What advice do you have for someone starting their career in this area?

My advice is to always expect the unexpected and to be flexible. Unpredictable things happen all the time and it is good to be able to adapt to the situation.
