The Importance Of The RISE Food Pantry, Now More Than Ever

RISE Life Services operates The Main Street Market Food Pantry, which is located at 901 East Main Street, Suite 500, Riverhead New York 11901. The Food Pantry has been open for approximately two years in this location. We currently accept donations through fundraising efforts as well as Island Harvest and Long Island Cares.

The operation provides a community service, but also serves as a supportive work environment for individual with disabilities who reside in our residential programs.  We currently have five individuals who work as a stock person, a driver to pick up food, and three people who run the pantry while it is open.  They receive hourly pay as a regular RISE employee.

The Main Street Market Food Pantry is a client choice pantry, we ask for no identification and invite people to come each week on Wednesday from 9:30 – 2:00.  We are in the same office complex as Social Services, who regularly send people in need to us for emergency food.  During the month of March, we provided food to 112 families, which reflects approximately 296 people from the east end of Long Island.

We have started work in a space donated by a church in Hampton Bays to open a second pantry sometime this spring. That had to be put on hold due the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently seeking help and donations in order to move forward with this second location in an area that is proven to need a food pantry and a service like we provide. Our wish list for this new location in Hampton Bays includes new appliances and some funds for us to offer supportive employment to additional residents who need staff support and oversight. The ultimate goal is to serve more people who need food, work and want to elevate their lives.

Our food pantry is vital now more than ever. Please consider a donation to support our ability to provide assistance to the east end community in this time of great need.

RISE Life Services provides a residential and supported living environment on the East End of Long Island, dedicated to empowering people with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges to RISE to their full potential.
