My name is Rachel Jane helfrich. I am 28 years old, and I live in an IRA through Rise Life Services in Riverhead. I have a mild learning disability. I attend the Program Without Walls since 2019. At this day program, I am very helpful with staff and my friends. I help with activities. I love my staff and my friends at the day program.
I love animals. I started to volunteer at Spirit’s Promise. I’ve been volunteering there for a year now. I love the horses! There’s a bull named Owen. All the animals are funny and have personalities in their own way and I miss being around them.
In the year of 2021 during Covid 19, I started to work on my self-esteem and my anger towards others. All along I was sometimes worried about Covid.
During 2021 we had a lot of fun things going on at the program like we had a prom and a Halloween party. We also had an art show, and we still have art classes at the Spirit of Huntington Art Center where we learned a lot about art and artists. I also learned a lot about myself as an artist. I think learning about who we are is important and it is something I plan on continuing to do.
